Apesar de terem sido um golpe de marketing perpetrado por Malcom McLaren, não é isso que lhes tira o estatudo de primeira banda Punk institucionalizada. Os New York Dolls deveriam ser considerados os verdadeiros pioneiros do Punk a par dos Ramones, embora estes na minha opinião tenham sido sempre mais Rockabilly que verdadeiramente Punk...
